Berkhamsted

A date with history

One of the oldest private schools in the country, founded in 1548, Berkhamsted School offers the historic with the modern. Located in the old market town of Berkhamsted, it is less than an hour north of London.

Berkhamsted’s history stretches back to the invasion of William the Conqueror, and he ordered that a castle be built. It no longer stands, but the site is still worth a visit. More recently, the author Graham Greene was born in one of the school’s accommodation houses.
